Calling all locals to help celebrate our Swiss Italian Festa!
The children’s lantern parade has been a longstanding and loved part of the Festa. This year we’re celebrating the idea of the lantern parade in a CoVID-safe way.
As we can’t have a parade, we’re inviting everyone to ‘put your lanterns out’ throughout the Hepburn Shire to keep the lantern tradition alive.
- Make or buy a lantern. Any lantern will work, be it fancy, simple, metal, paper or even a glass jar. Make it a family project and make one each.
- Light your lantern. Put a tea light, electronic candle, battery or a string of lights (whatever is safest for your particular lantern) in your lantern – we want to see it!
- Hang up your lantern at dusk on Saturday 23rd October – on your fence, on a gate, on a tree in your garden; wherever you can safely hang it for all to see.
- Post a pic of your lantern on social media and tag #swissitalianfesta. Take a pic of the lanterns in your street as well.
We’re hoping the Festa lantern parade will return in 2022. Perhaps we’ll also have a new tradition with the lanterns displayed in front of our homes after the parade.
