Acoustic Voice presents: The Art Of Expressive Solo Singing In The Chapel

The 1600s saw an astonishing cultural revolution taking place in Italy; the art of expressive solo singing was being codified. Earlier, the style was like an instrument—florid, or decorated. Today, with the use of technology, one doesn’t need to sing in tune to have a professional career! Instead of being engaged by a performance, an audience now merely observes it. The centuries-old art that swept the globe is facing extinction.

Acoustic Voice is presenting a recital program that begins with songs from 1608. These are some of the first ever written with the conscious aim of exploring human emotional life. Our singers highlight songs and arias through the intervening years up to the 1930s. Dr Graham Clarke is thrilled to be presenting this program in Australia after a critically acclaimed international tour.
